The VEP is also useful in determining the probable location of lesions in cortically blind patients. If you can record a VEP from a cortically blind patient, then it is almost certain that the lesions causing the visual disability are not in the optic nerve or primary visual cortex. Instead, the lesions are to be found in the higher visual centers.
